The need has arisen for the men of Gamma Upsilon to refocus our attention on the young men in high school. Working closely with our scholarship fund advisor the mentor chair develop a pedrogram that will do more than just offer financial aid when students are headed to college called G.O.L.D (Gentlemen of Leadership and Distinction). The intent is to develop men with character and sense of ownership of their community. Inspiring young men to have a positive impact in their school, this group will be the catalyst for change. Being mentors to younger students and being the role models to their counterparts will be their aim. With the help and guidance from the men of Omega Psi Phi, and in accordance with the oversight of the administration, teachers, and student’s parents, these young men will set the standard across the board, with their academics and community involvement. This program will also track these students through high school and give them guidance to help them achieve their own personal goals and hopefully allow them to continuing their education after graduation.
Gamma Upsilon Chapter kicked off the GOLD group in October 2010. The current group consists of males from the ages from 12-17 years of age in the Wichita Community. As stated in the purpose it will be the avenue to reach, direct, develop, mentor and maintain positive infuence on the young men of our community. Our four cardinal principals, Manhood, Scholarship, Perserverance, and Uplift, will serve as our proven foundation for the GOLD program.
